My Top 3 Favorite Sites This Week

My Top 3 Favorite Sites This Week

I took a moment to visit Awwwards and examine some of the top voted sites right now on the net; I was excited at what I saw. Not only was able to appreciate some of the small fine-tuning of these sites, but I was able to then “right-click and inspect” the page so I could see exactly how the coder made a particular function happen.

#3 Techy Scouts
Not all sites are meant to be viewed on the computer. Some are made strictly for mobile devices or more suitable for mobile devices. Techy Scouts is one of those sites but I appreciate the graphic designers at Techy Scouts for making their site an enjoyable experience. I was unsure whether some of the animations were done with using CSS or Javascript, however, I enjoyed the subtle animations. The squirmy lizard-looking creature, the car stuck to the huge magnet, and some of the other graphics were nice to see.

On the website, there is a simple scroll and click action and the buttons are assumed in the arrows on the screen under each section. Because of the playful nature of the page, the arrows do have a tendency to get lost in the shuffle of the other features of the site. If I could offer up a suggestion to the designer, I would simply say,”Add a written directive for the UX. Therefore, it would be no confusion in regards to how a person navigates to the next section. Other than that small tweak, I would state confidently, that although listed at #3, of my top favorites for the week, the Techy Scouts site is beautifully crafted. On a scale of 1-10: 8.4!

#2 About Audible
In terms of utilizing the basic tools available to us as web designers. I believe the designer, Elegant Seagulls, did an amazing job. The basic background of this site is an off-white, almost faint grey, but it pairs perfectly with the teal and yellows. On the home page, there is a picture of a very dark-skinned women who would catch the eye because she is not your typical Cover Girl . The border and margin spacing is perfect, and it is not hard to tell that this designer took great notes in the area of typography because the color scheme is brilliantly paired (navy blue, gold, grey, and white). There is significant spacing between the pictures and sub-sections of the Community Impact and Our News sections. The site can be further viewed at: About Audible.

As I scroll the page and look to click on some of the buttons, I notice the subtle CSS programming designs. For example, when the menu buttons are clicked, there is a yellow underline that appears along with a grey button background. Learning the process of coding these changes was interesting because I never imagined the number of steps and the attention to detail required in order to command a background color change, or ease of a transition on a button function. On a scale from 1-10, 8.5.

#1 #DoWhatYouCant
My #1 pick definitely goes to Do What You Can’t! The initial introduction of the site is that of a man running with all of his might. There is also a huge hashtag in the center of the page that says “#DoWhatYouCant”! This in itself is amazingly catchy and and makes a visitor think! “Do what you can’t”, I immediately began to examine all of the things I once thought I could not do.

I immediately thought about school and passing organic chemistry, learning to ride a motorcycle, and learning how to have patience in trying situations. These are all things I once believed I could not do and now as I see myself being a conqueror of the things I once doubted, doing what I thought I couldn’t looks a bit more attractive. Every moment and lesson in life is about doing what you can’t so the emotion tied in with the high adrenaline design captured me. The simplicity of the website was pleasant as well because the designer stretched the width of the header to be 100% max width which allowed the video playing at the onset of the site to be fully enjoyed.

There are two buttons on the landing page and although they are in another language, the English translation is alongside the Austrian word. Samsung catered to two audiences at the same time. After selecting experience, I was taken through a complete video that was composed of high adrenaline sports moments, the full video of the snippet we catch on the home page, and a better understanding of the Samsung product line. Throughout the video, there was a list of products that were debuted and the character running made sure to showcase them along his high tempo journey. The overall feel was captivating and on a scale from 1-10 i definitely offer up the vote of a 9.0.
