03 Apr HEADSPACE….I’M THE MISSING PIECE!
My initial journey through Codetalk was one of uncertainty because the field was a new ocean of information for me. I am never intimidated by much of anything, however, I did find the initial introduction a bit challenging to grasp. My previous profession immediately before entering the Codetalk program was life insurance and investments. I very much loved the opportunity to connect with my community and provide a service to them that ultimately had the ability to increase their financial wealth and bring them closer to financial freedom. Seeing people happy as they advance towards their higher vibration is my life purpose. My mission is to bring them as close to that as they desire which is why whatever company I work for must be one that cares about their consumers and displays their understanding of basic human needs.
After graduating Codetalk I will be a new coder in the tech community but I plan on taking on several freelance projects while working for a company such as Headspace. That will allow me to truly exercise creative freedom. This company embodies the same belief and mission I hold. They value sanity and peace. From my research, I have learned that Headspace is an English-American health-care company. They specialize in meditation and this is amazingly interesting to me because my college major was kinesiology. I earned a bachelor of science degree in 2012 with an emphasis in exercise science. In my later years in life, I plan to work as a spiritual kinesiologist. Incorporated in May 2010 in London, England by Andy Puddicombe and Richard Pierson. It is headquartered in Santa Monica, California with offices in San Francisco and London.
I grew up in Vallejo, CA which is minutes away from San Francisco; my family (mother, father, sister) still lives in the area, and I currently live in Southern California. Either location suits me because it allows me to work near family, and being able to expand mentally within a company such as Headspace, would allow for my creative genius to take over. I would imagine the environment to be ultra focused on the current task yet relaxing as well because they value health.
Reading the story behind the founder, Andy, made me smile. When I noticed the similarities between his life and mine, I became anxious. In his early twenties, as stated in his bio, he was going to college for a sport science degree; same as me. I completed my degree, and he however, did not, but it did not deter him from completing his mission. Cutting his degree short to fulfill his calling is also what I did. I left college and went overseas to play basketball before I was done. I left to go to Europe and that is when I discovered the ease of life. Everything does not always need to be stressful, and I was able to observe that by way of life in a foreign country for 2 years. Upon finishing my last season, I returned to finish my kinesiology degree. I believe Andy’s 10 year hiatus that allowed him to become a Buddhist, and his meditation training that took him all over the world is synonymous to my journey through basketball.
Ultimately, Andy came into business with his partner, Rich Pierson, through his desire to help Rich deal with the stress he was facing in the world of advertising. This is not only awesome, but a heartfelt gesture that led to a successful company. From this Headspace was created, and now individuals like me work diligently to become an asset to companies such as this. Between knowing and understanding my divine connection to this universe, loving the progression of people, and always looking for a way to simplify life for the average human, I know I would be an amazing team member at Headspace.
If given the opportunity, I am more than sure I can fulfill the roles available. Whether it is market research, user experience data, improving the user interface and/or architecture of the company, I can complete the job. I am aware that my skill set will need to improve in the areas of css coding and syntax, however, my imagination in regards to design and information architecture would be an asset to the team. I am more than willing to take personal time to acquire the skill sets necessary to complete the tasks given. My biggest desire is to work on a team towards a common goal that suits other people as well as myself.
Before Codetalk, I was introduced to Headspace, but did not know the history of the company, was unaware of it being newly founded in 2010, but was totally aware of the buzz around the meditation guidance and activities provided to the user. The beautiful part is that content can be accessed anywhere that a person has a mobile device or computer. I meditate on the regular basis and it is apart of my daily routine! I can and will add value to the company if given the opportunity. My initial thought is adding a platform for children who suffer from autism because meditation is a simple way of controlling one’s’ thoughts and actions. I know first hand because I have 2 nephews on the spectrum. This month we celebrate Autism Awareness. For special needs children, energy focused activities are majorly beneficial. I simply need a platform to implement the ideas and watch the vision unfold!
