Kameo Williams, founder of the Myles McGowan Coaches Classic, is also founder of Gems in the Gym (GITG) and former Head Coach at Diablo Valley College (DVC). He has been on the Bay Area basketball circuit for over 20 years and he’s is on a mission to change the culture through basketball athletics, one dribble, one pass, one shot at a time.
From personal experience, I know Kameo Williams to be a very heart felt and community-based gentleman. He was not only one of first coaches, but he has been a solid mentor as well as an amazing example of a community advocate. As Myles’ God Father, Kameo began the annual basketball fundraising event to honor and celebrate Myles’ life and bring awareness to childhood cancer. Amazing right?? Each year Myles’ parent selects a charity of their choice to contribute monies raised each year during the basketball tournament. Myles McGowan Coaches Classic basketball tournament is in its 13th year, and we are still celebrating the life of Myles McGowan, and we are still raising awareness for childhood cancer.
The beauty of this event is that it allows past and present student-athletes, as well as coaches, to come together in support of the community and raise awareness around the different health challenges we face and fight as a people. Aside from the annual Coaches Classic, Mr. Williams is also responsible for GITG Spring Showcase which will take place March 22, 2020! Be ready!
